- Nebraska Farmers Can Extend Community Support Through New Monsanto Fund Award Program
Begins Saturday May 1st, 2010.
ST. LOUIS (April 30, 2010) – Nebraska farmers have the opportunity to win awards to help community non-profit organizations that are dear to their hearts. The awards are available through Monsanto Fund’s America’s Farmers Grow Communities ProjectSM, a new program being offered in select counties in California, Kansas, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and South Dakota. Through the program, farmers can enter to win the chance to direct $2,500 awards to local non-profit organizations that are important to them and their communities.
The program is intended to benefit non-profit community groups such as ag youth organizations, schools and other civic groups. Farmers can apply online at www.growcommunities.com or by calling 1.877.267.3332 to obtain an application.Farmers, age 21 and over, who are actively engaged in farming a minimum of 250 acres of corn, soybeans and/or cotton, or 40 acres of open field vegetables, or at least 10 acres of tomatoes, peppers and/or cucumbers grown in protected culture, are eligible. The application period runs May 1 through July 31, 2010. The program is open to all qualifying farmers, and no purchase is necessary in order to enter or win. In Nebraska, one winner will be drawn from each of the state’s 71 participating counties. Monsanto Fund will announce winning farmers and recipient organizations that were chosen in August 2010.

- Highway 30 Closed- Paxton to Sutherland
Begins Tuesday July 6th, 2010.
Highway 30 will be closed to traffic between Paxton and Sutherland from July 6th to mid-October, 2010. Traffic will be detoured to I-80 while construction takes place. Local traffic ONLY until Highway 30 reopens in October.
- Hwy. 26 Closed between Ogallala and Lewellen
Begins Wednesday July 14th, 2010.
Highway 26 is closed between Ogallala and Lewellen until fall for construction. Local traffic only will be allowed on the road until work is complete. Follow detours, watch for workers and be patient on the roadways during this time.
- Bridge of Hope Advocacy Center ice cream social
Begins Saturday July 31st, 2010 1:00 PM CDT Ends Saturday July 31st, 2010 3:00 PM CDT.
The Bridge of Hope Advocacy Center is hosting an ice cream social and open house to announce the completion of their Exterior Makeover Project. Stop in at the Bridge of Hope, 410 West 5th in North Platte, between 1 and 3 p.m. for an ice cream social as their way of saying thanks for the public's help and contributions.
- World War II historic marker ceremony
Begins Saturday July 31st, 2010 5:00 PM CDT.
A historic marker dedication will be held in Wood Lake, NE on July 31st for 2 fighter pilots killed during WWII. Activities begin at 5 p.m. with a supper, followed by the dedication between 7 and 8 and a street dance at 9. All World War II veterans are invited to attend and be honored during the ceremony. Memorabilia displayed at the dedication will be donated to the Cherry County Historical Society.
- Frisbee Golf Tournament
Begins Sunday August 1st, 2010.
Frisbee Gold Tournament at Cody Park beginning at 12n. Get there early to register for recreation, intermediate or advanced brackets. Followed by Music in the Park 5-10p. Come enjoy 5 hours of Free, Live entertainment.
- N.P. Optimists Youth Golf Class
Begins Tuesday August 3rd, 2010 9:00 AM CDT Ends Tuesday August 10th, 2010 10:30 AM CDT.
The NP Optimists and Iron Eagle Golf Course are sponsoring a 3-day "Instruction in putting, chipping & driving" at the Iron Eagle Golf Course on Tuesday August 3rd, Monday August 9th and Tuesday August 10th. There will be a mini-tourney at the finish of the class. Trophies will be awarded. The instructional is free and youth 9 through 15 years of age are welcome to attend. - Community Connections National Night Out
Begins Tuesday August 3rd, 2010.
Looking for a fun, free, family event this Summer? Join Community Connections, AAA, Nebraskaland National Bank, and our local law enforcement to celebrate Community Health, Safety and Prevention at National Night Out, Tuesday August 3rd from 6 - 9p at Cody Park. The night will include free bicycle helmets for the first 50 kids, as well as free hot dogs, free ice-cream, and free rides for the first 500! Kids bring your bikes for the rodeo, and your family for games & fun!
- Creativity Unlimited Arts Council's Giant Garage Sale
Begins Friday August 6th, 2010 9:00 AM CDT Ends Saturday August 7th, 2010 5:00 PM CDT.
Creativity Unlimited Arts Council will host a giant garage sale fundraiser on Friday August 6th and Saturday August 7th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Prairie Arts Building (Old 1913 Post Office Building.) The community is invited to donate items for the sale. Big or small, clean and working items can be dropped off at the Prairie Arts Center every Monday through Friday from 1-3 p.m. until the day of the sale.
- "Market Your Cattle in the Pink" Video Auction
Begins Tuesday August 10th, 2010 1:00 PM CDT.
For every head of cattle sold on the August 10th video auction, North Platte Livestock Auction will donate $1.00 from the commission of sale to the Callahan Cancer Center (1000 head sold = $1000, etc.) The NPLA will also be auctioning a steer donated by Chris Dietrich of Minneapolis, KS, a decorated cake donated by Sandhills Catering and drawings for a handmade scarf and pink quilt donated by Jim & Judy Gragg. - 10th Annual Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Foundation golf tournament
Begins Friday August 13th, 2010 11:30 AM CDT.
The Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Foundation is hosting its 10th Annual golf tournament on Friday August 13th at the Wild Horse Golf Course in Gothenburg. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. followed by a meal catered by The Main Course at 5. Costs are as follows:
